About

Hi, I’m Geoff a software developer based in South Wales. I currently work in the Bespoke Development Team at Spindogs. I love working on software that makes quality of life improvements for its users.

Outside of work I have been volunteering for Three Rings since 2016, contributing code to the volunteer rota management platform, supporting the underlying server infrastructure and maintaining the Portal platform that was adopted from the Nightline Association. Volunteering is something I have always enjoyed doing, while studying at Cardiff University I volunteered for Cardiff Nightline (a student led listening service). Volunteering for Cardiff Nightline led me to apply and start volunteering for the Nightline Association (an umbrella charity for Nightline Services) as an IT volunteer until the Association sadly closed in 2025.

Like all devs I’ve got a mountain of project ideas (very few are any good) most of which I never start, some that I do and even fewer I actually get to a point the commercial world would call an MVP.

This blog is one of those ideas, I’ve been wanting to do something like this for a while. Wanting a space that is mine to write about anything I want, some people use social media but that’s definitely not for me. Over the last couple of years I’ve tried to be more mindful and I’m working on being more intentional; I hope this space will help me with both of those things, as well as maybe improving my writing – as an edge benefit it might serve as some useful documentation for my future self!

This blog is also going to be one of those projects, in addition to the writing the content I will be using it as another way to scratch the development itch and may well be something I write about.

I’m hoping not everything I write about will be technical, I have non-technical interests and hobbies including gardening, baking and watching musicals so who knows what will be included!
